And just like that we're less than a week away from the release of Northerly, my next quilt pattern!

It was inspired by the north star and I think it resembles a star or a snowflake depending on color choice and placement.

In fact, that's one of my favorite things about this pattern! It comes in 2 colorways with seemingly endless design possibilities!

I'm putting together a blog post to offer some guidance for how to acheive certain effects. I would love your input for mockups you'd like to see and I can share some on Mockup Monday 😉

Which reminds me, all the sizes and colorways are loaded on @prequilt, a free quilt mockup tool, so you can get a jump start on playing with color options!

* Modified Log Cabin
* Square-In-A-Square
* Stitch-And-Flip

Plus you'll need an accurate and consistent seam allowance (which I think can sometimes be the hardest part), but there are lots of measurements provided along the way to keep you on track and opportunities to adjust your seam allowance if needed as you go!

Quilt charcuterie is my favorite because it means my least favorite part of cutting is done!

Question:
Do you like when patterns include cutting diagrams to go along with the cutting instructions?

Here's a little back story:
* In my past patterns I have focused on using every available bit of the width of fabric (WOF) in a strip, which meant multiple sized fabric pieces would be cut from the same WOF strip. Great for conserving fabric, not so great for ease or speed of cutting out all the pieces. For these types of cutting instructions, I would always include cutting diagrams.
* For my upcoming Northerly pattern I tried to find a better balance of being efficient with fabric usage while also prioritizing ease and speed of cutting. I really don't think cutting diagrams would be necessary, but didn't know if they were something you really loved having included in patterns.

So I'm wondering:
* Assuming the cutting instructions are straightforward, do you find cutting diagrams to be a must for patterns?
* Or are they nice to have, but not necessary?
* Or are they unnecessary and you don't really use them when they're included?

New Year! New Pattern! New Fabric Pull!

It's the first fabric pull Friday of the year and I'm sharing the fabric for the cover of my next pattern, Northerly! You all helped me pick the colors by voting in my stories, so THANK YOU! You all chose well!!

I've been working hard behind the scenes getting my next pattern, #NortherlyQuilt, ready for release in January, celebrating our middle little's birthday, playing in the snow, and just all around enjoying the season and making memories ❄️

This quilt is getting a glow up! ✨️

I made this quilt 2 years ago and I'm so excited to finally be writing it up as a pattern!

I've made a few changes to the design to really spruce it up!...Did I purposely stand by a spruce tree two years ago when this pic was taken so I could say that today? You betcha! 😉

I'm all set on the design, but I'd love your help picking which colorway I should use to make a sample.

Do we like the blue/gold colorway where the alternating points of the star/snowflake are different colors or do we like the evergreen colorway where all the points are the same?

Happy Fabric Pull Friday!

I've got 3 projects ready to go, but can't decide which one to make!

* The first one would be a quick make, but the fabric is almost too pretty to cut up so I keep procrastinating on that one 🙃

* The next one I'm VERY excited about, but it has 20+ templates and would take FOREVER and I think I'm in the mood for a quick make 🤔

* The last one is a Christmas present (which should have been a Christmas present last year 🫣) and I really should be making that one, but I'm just not feeling it right now 🫠

Since I couldn't decide, I pivoted and just made cookies which is always a win 😉

I grew up in the Midwest where we could always count on snow in the winter, but we don't get a lot of snow in the valley where we live now, so I've started making all the snowy things to compensate ❄️

@abbymaed Abby's newest pattern, Snowglow, is the perfect snowy make! It's fun, quick, and I think it even has a little sparkle with the way the pieces are arranged ❄️

We had grand plans to head to the coast to go crabbing today, but our littlest little is sick, so we're sticking close to home.

A few weekends ago we actually did make it to the coast and stopped at this little riverside gem on the way there. We admired the changing leaves, hunted for crawdads in the shadow of the covered bridge, and our middle little decided swimming was a good idea...it was such a fun and beautiful day spent together 🤍

If you scroll through my Instagram feed, you'll find that it's pretty colorful, so you might be surprised to learn that one of my favorite colors is greige 🤭

So when I saw earlier this year that @Fableism released new #SproutWovens colors, and one was a gorgeous greige, AND the color was called HEATHER, I let out an audible excited gasp, threw a ticker tape parade, and celebrated with cake and ice cream 🎉 Needless to say, I was very excited!

I used it to make my new #FlakeQuilt, and I love how with only 2 colors in the pattern, the greige really gets to shine... well, shine as much as the color greige can 😉

Even though we've already passed the first official day of fall, the beginning of October always seems like the "real" first day of fall to me....except for this year, because it's been 80° and sunny here 😂

So I'm pivoting from sharing something fall-inspired to sharing something that matches our current weather a bit more 😉

I recently got to play with @alderwoodstudio Amber's new fabric line with @rileyblakedesigns, Garden Dreams. It's bright and joyful and oh so pretty!

I especially enjoy that it matches the current state of our flower garden with the beautiful florals and dancing foliage, so I'm extra in love with these prints. Plus, peek the cutest little beetles you ever did see 🥰
